Napheesa Collier breaks silence after losing to A’ja Wilson for WNBA MVP award

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson was named the WNBA Most Valuable Player for the 2025 season, becoming the only player in league history to win the award four times.

The 29-year-old star was competing against Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever), Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream) and Alyssa Thomas (Phoenix Mercury). And one of them broke her silence after the award ceremony.

Collier’s reaction

As the season began and with each game played, the Lynx star was the favorite for the MVP award. On August 2, the Lynx beat the Aces by 58 points, but it was during that game that Collier suffered an unfortunate ankle injury that forced her to miss seven games for Minnesota. And from there, Wilson and the Aces never lost again and reeled off 16 straight wins.

Averaging 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, “Phee” had a great performance, but it was A’ja who finally took the prize. However, the 29-year-old center had an outstanding season with the Aces and averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.

Wilson ended up winning the voting handsomely, receiving 51 first-place votes from a panel of 72 voters and 657 voting points.

Coming in second place, Napheesa accepted the decision made and after the Lynx win over the Mercury, he argued what gives him strength:

The team is way bigger than me. Whatever my personal goals are, I’m here for the team, and right now, we’re focused on a championship. So, it was easy not to think about that.

The truth is that both could be going for a bigger prize: a championship and Finals MVP. Both the Aces and Lynx have a chance to meet in the Playoff Finals if Wilson and company can beat the Indiana Fever and Collier and his team can beat the Phoenix Mercury.

Without a doubt, it will be interesting to see how these Semifinals develop and if we will finally have A’ja and Napheesa facing each other on the court.
