Nacho Beristain destroys Canelo in interview with Mexican media: “It makes me want to throw up”

If there is someone who can be considered a benchmark in Mexican and world boxing, it is Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Beristain, and if his voice is heard on some issue that is on the edge of the ropes and what is done inside them, it is necessary to listen to it

Beristain gave an interview to the Mexican media outlet Reporte Indigo, and in it he spoke mainly about the career of the Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who is considered by many to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters today. However, he also has many detractors who, like him, do not believe that he deserves to be in the place where the hegemonic media say he deserves to be.

Nacho, as his friends and pupils call him, emphasized the fighter’s career and made it clear on several occasions that he does not like to talk about it, but that he is always asked and he does not want to leave things unanswered: “I get tired of talking about the same thing. And they ask me about Canelo, that I generally detest the career of that bastard because he makes half-arranged fights (…) It is a total lack of respect for boxing and for the credibility of the people.”

“It makes me want to throw up”

Beristain wanted to make it more than clear how much he dislikes the boxer’s career, who next May will face Cuban William Scull in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: “Do you have any idea what a ringside ticket to a world championship fight is worth, $15,000 or $20,000? A damn ticket to be in the front row. Only the artists go and they are rigged fights. I sit there to watch a fight and I realize how the game is then, then by the experience that I have a lot of years. I realize and I feel like throwing up.”

Nacho Beristain told his interviewer a forceful argument, the kind he has been making in recent times when Canelo is mentioned to him, and that makes him go off like a firecracker, as on this occasion was no exception: “I have told (David) Faitelson and some who have interviewed me ‘Why until just now they realize what this fucking rascal is doing? If he has been doing it for a long time“, he concluded.
