Myles Garrett overshadows Shedeur Sanders: How does he manage to make the rest of the Browns players fade into the background?

Myles Garrett continues leave high-profile names stunned with his performances in the NFL, including within the Cleveland Browns‘ locker room as he shows off the body that made him a four-time All-Pro.

Whilst attention might be on Shedeur Sanders‘ debut for the team at quarterback in the preseason opener, eyes have sharply turned to the 6-foot-4/272 pounds 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year as he goes shirtless.

Garrett‘s decision to appear topless at a media event this week captured headlines-not only for the spectacle but also because it symbolized the disparity between him and nearly every other player in the league.

Looking as though he should be competing at the Mr. Olympia instead of the Huntington Bank Field, the 29-year-old showed onlookers his bulked physique and it’s everything you’d expect from an accomplished defender.

With huge traps, broad shoulders and massive biceps, the NFL star looked as though he was preparing to audition for a role in a modern superhero film, as though he could rival David Corenswet for Superman.

It’s no surprise that he won a four-year $160m extension at his current team, yet he tried to keep the attention on Sanders.

“He’s lighthearted,” Garrett said of his Browns colleague. “He works hard.

“He takes it seriously, his craft. Looking forward to seeing him in these preseason games.”

Sanders to start vs Carolina Panthers in Cleveland Browns preseason clash

The Browns will start Shedeur Sanders at quarterback in Friday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers on August 9 as Kevin Stefanski confirmed the likes of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel will sit it out.

They’re all dealing with injuries and niggles and that gives the 23-year-old Colorado Buffaloes graduate the chance to shine, impress his head coach and potentially climb up the depth chart.

Sanders will receive his first opportunity to lead the offense but he might not play every single snap as the recently-signed Tyler Huntley will be right behind him from the bench.

It’s a big chance for the youngster to change the narrative surrounding him after his first round projection in the 2025 NFL Draft proved wide of the mark, with him slipping to the fifth following fears surrounding his personality and commitment.

“How do I block out the noise? I’ve always faced adversity since growing up,” Sanders said of the criticism. “Each level, it’s always been something.

“When you figure out how people come at you … life is a cycle, it keeps repeating over, over and over, then you understand what game this is or what they’re doing.

“I can never feel less than. Nobody can ever make me mentally get out of position in the situation I’m in.

“I’m thankful for who I am, I’m thankful for who my Dad [Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders] is, I’m thankful for my family. No one can make me feel bad about the blessings I do have.”

Sanders built his reputation at Colorado, where he threw for 4134 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 74.0% of his passes in the 2024/25 NCAA season as he helped lead the Buffaloes to the Alamo Bowl.
