There is no doubt that over the years the techniques in different sports vary and some styles are left in the past and others are renewed. Boxing is a clear example of this, as nowadays new tactics are being used to beat opponents and there are questions about the past. Recently, a post on X sparked the debate by recalling the techniques of one of the greatest of all time: Muhammad Ali.

NajiChill’s account on X published a message that was taken out of context by boxing fans and generated much debate. “If Muhammad Ali boxed today, fans would say he was boring and just ran. This is crazy!” commented the user and people took it out of context believing it was a direct criticism of the historic boxer, but it was quite the opposite.

After the misunderstanding on social media, a particular boxer wanted to come out to defend the message and it was none other than Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, who on his X account quoted the previous message and explained what he was really referring to.

“People are taking this out of context, he’s not talking bad about him (Ali)… He’s saying that today’s fans don’t know the difference between elite footwork and ‘running’.,” explained the grandson of probably the greatest boxer in history.

Muhammad Ali’s style

The style of Muhammad Ali marked a before and after in the history of boxing. Ali is considered the best in history by many and his way of fighting was very characteristic, but apparently today many fans might think differently, according to what is read on social networks.

“Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” was one of Ali’s phrases and perfectly defined his style. The boxer was very agile and always in constant motion. He was known for his footwork, where he moved very quickly and dodged punches with ease. Many said that Ali danced in the ring and that was very true.

Another aspect to highlight about Ali is that despite being a heavyweight, he had a lot of speed in his movements and seemed to be a boxer of another category. There is no doubt that this style marked the history of boxing and that today there is no one who can match him.

What’s bred in the bone will come out in the flesh

They say that there are things that are inherited from the family and that are carried in the blood. In Ali’s case, this seems to be true, as his grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, also decided to take up boxing and continue his grandfather’s spectacular legacy.

Nico made his professional boxing debut in 2021 and wore his grandfather’s white shorts as a tribute. The 24-year-old has had a couple of knockout victories and also signed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank, who also worked with Muhammad Ali and is looking to take his grandson to perhaps the level that the greatest of all time reached.
