Mookie Betts declares himself the best athlete on the Dodgers, claiming he surpasses Ohtani in skills

Mookie Betts has declared himself the best athlete on the Dodgers team, surpassing Shohei Ohtani, despite the latter’s impressive skills.

Despite being recognized as one of the most complete players in baseball history, Mookie Betts has no doubt that Shohei Ohtani is the best athlete in the Los Angeles Dodgers clubhouse

In an informal poll conducted by The Athletic, many of his teammates voted Betts as the best athlete, ahead of Ohtani, who is celebrated for his ability to play both as a hitter and pitcher.

Mookie has proven to be a true multi-talented player. His ability to switch positions on the field, from outfielder to shortstop, and his success in virtually any sport he tries, makes him stand out. Teammates such as Chris Taylor have praised his skills, calling him “one of the best athletes I’ve ever played with, if not the best.”

When answering the question about who is the best athlete, Betts did not hesitate. “Me. It’s not even a competition,” he said with complete confidence. Although Ohtani has proven to be exceptional in terms of speed and jumps, Betts excels in what he considers his strengths: coordination and natural skills that he has developed over the years.

“Ohtani might win in speed or high jumps, but in pure coordination, there’s no competition,” Betts added.

Is the comparison fair?

Ohtani remains a unique player, with three MVP awards and an unparalleled impact on baseball. In 2023, despite elbow surgery, he continued to make his mark with his performance as a hitter and pitcher, achieving a historic feat with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season.

In summary, while both players excel in different aspects, Betts demonstrates why he feels confident in calling himself the best athlete on the team, relying on his skills beyond baseball. At the end of the day, it’s not bad to have self-confidence
