Molly Qerim is back, stepping into boxing’s spotlight beyond ESPN

This Friday, the spotlight will not be focused solely on the boxing ring, but also on the chemistry between two longtime colleagues looking to reinvent themselves outside ESPN’s traditional structure-and on one of the most charismatic hosts in American sports television. Molly Qerim is back.

Qerim stepped away from the public eye following her abrupt departure from ESPN last September, but this weekend she returns to television after signing a contract with Zuffa Boxing in Las Vegas, marking her first major project since closing her chapter on First Take.

Molly Qerim’s new chapter

The event, which will be broadcast this Friday on Paramount+, represents a significant bet in the combat sports landscape. It is a joint venture between TKO and Sela, a company owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, underscoring the growing global investment in boxing as a premium media property.

For this new stage of her career, Qerim will not be alone at the analyst desk. She will share the broadcast with prominent figures such as former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver, respected boxing insider Mike Coppinger, and veteran reporter Mark Kriegel.

However, the element that has generated the most conversation on social media is the inevitable professional reunion that this broadcast will bring. Max Kellerman, Qerim’s former on-air partner for years on First Take, has also been signed as part of the production. Kellerman will serve on the commentary team alongside Joe Tessitore and Andre Ward.

Qerim’s reappearance comes after a prolonged period of media silence. Her exit from ESPN was described by Burke Magnus, the network’s president of content, as a situation in which the parties were “not completely aligned,” despite ongoing discussions regarding a potential contract renewal.

Now, operating outside the shadow of the “Worldwide Leader in Sports,” Qerim is aiming to capitalize on her popularity in a new environment. While Kellerman has spoken openly about his professional distancing from Stephen A. Smith-suggesting Smith preferred to operate independently-Qerim has largely stayed away from public controversy, choosing instead to let her return to the screen speak for itself.
