The MLB regular season has come to a close, with some teams giving their all on the field and keeping their dreams of a World Series title alive, while others fell short of expectations, emerging as the biggest disappointments of the season, including the Houston Astros and New York Mets.

October has arrived, bringing the excitement of MLB postseason baseball, where the league’s top teams will battle to keep their championship dreams alive. Six teams will represent the National League, while another six will compete from the American League. Fans can expect intense matchups, unforgettable moments, and the high stakes that define October baseball.

The MLB playoffs will kick off with the Wild Card Series, featuring thrilling matchups where the third, fourth, and sixth-best teams from each division compete for a chance to face the top two teams, who are already set for the second round.

MLB Wild Card Series Kicks Off: Exciting Matchups Set the Stage for the Playoffs

Under the format introduced in 2022, the two top division champions in each league advance directly to the Division Series. Meanwhile, the other four qualifying teams compete in a best-of-three Wild Card Series, with all games hosted by the higher-seeded team.

The first round of the Wild Card Series is set to feature some exciting matchups between top MLB teams. In the American League, the Detroit Tigers will face the Cleveland Guardians in one matchup, while the perennial favorites, the New York Yankees, take on the Boston Red Sox in the second game of the division.

In the other division, former MLB World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, will clash with the Cincinnati Reds. Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres will aim to secure their spot in the next round as they face off against the Chicago Cubs.

Best-of-five matchups set the stage for intense playoff battles

In the next round, the winners of the Wild Card Series will face the top four teams from each division, all vying to keep their World Series dreams alive. Among them, the American League champion Toronto Blue Jays will await the winner of the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees matchup.

Just behind the Toronto Blue Jays, who finished first in the American League, are the Seattle Mariners in second place. The Mariners will face the winner of the Detroit Tigers-Cleveland Guardians Wild Card matchup.

In the National League, division champion Milwaukee Brewers will await the winner of the San Diego Padres-Chicago Cubs matchup, while the Philadelphia Phillies will face the victor of the Cincinnati Reds-Los Angeles Dodgers series.
