The NBA trade market could have a stellar protagonist this summer: Kevin Durant. While the Phoenix Suns look to resolve their future before the 2025 Draft, Durant’s figure is once again at the center of rumors. If Giannis Antetokounmpo does not request to leave Milwaukee, the 15-time All-Star forward would be the most coveted name on the market.
In this scenario, Bleacher Report analyst Andy Bailey came up with a proposal that has started to make waves in the league: a trade that would send Durant to a Minnesota Timberwolves team in need of taking the next step toward a ring.
Bailey suggested the following package:
Phoenix Suns would receive: Rudy Gobert, Mike Conley, Rob Dillingham, Luka Garza and a 2032 first-round pick swap.
Minnesota Timberwolves would receive: Kevin Durant.
The logic behind this move is clear. After reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2024 and 2025, the Timberwolves were eliminated in five games on both occasions (by Dallas and Oklahoma City, respectively). A power move like acquiring Durant, who would form a fearsome duo with Anthony Edwards, could be the ultimate boost to turn Minnesota into a true title contender.
For Phoenix, however, the deal is more questionable. Although Bailey argues that Rudy Gobert would be the best interior defender Devin Booker has ever had alongside him, and that Mike Conley could bring experience and direction, many pundits feel the package falls short compared to what other teams such as the Houston Rockets or New York Knicks could offer.
Additionally, Bailey highlighted the potential of Rob Dillingham as a young prospect and valued the long-term draft capital the Suns would receive. However, the debate is open: is this “restart” enough for a team that still aspires to compete at the elite level?
