The upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is already a hot topic, but the latest buzz stems from a newly released video of the former heavyweight champion. While the footage shows Tyson looking fast and powerful, sharp-eyed fans noticed something that raised alarm bells.
“Iron Mike,” one of the greatest boxers of all time, reigned as the undisputed heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990. However, Father Time spares no one.
Many experts and fans have voiced concerns about Tyson, now 58, stepping into the ring against an opponent 30 years his junior. Originally scheduled for July, the fight was postponed to November 15 after Tyson suffered a flare-up of a stomach ulcer.
After taking a break from training on doctor’s orders, Tyson resumed his preparation. However, he hadn’t shared any training footage-until this past Friday. While his latest video showcased his trademark power and speed, it left some fans more worried than reassured.
What did fans notice?
Before his health scare, Tyson frequently posted training videos, where he appeared to be in peak form. The new footage seems to show him back to his best, but some observant fans realized the clip wasn’t recent.
The video actually compiled older training footage, filmed weeks before his medical issue. In it, Tyson is seen working the mitts with his trainer in the ring, alongside the caption: “Final stretch. Less than 50 days left.”
The response from his fans was immediate, with a large majority showing their admiration for “Iron Mike,” confident that they will achieve a victory over Paul in the fight that will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Others were not so convinced.
Fans react with mixed emotions
Tyson’s most loyal followers showered him with praise and support, leaving comments like, “Yeah, Jake might be in trouble,” “He [Tyson] got faster… oh ya, Jake’s cooked,” and “That trainer’s fighting for his life even with all that protection.” One fan even joked, “Jake Paul (1997-2024).”
However, others were more skeptical. “He’s not half as good as he was 20 years ago. He’s too old,” one critic wrote. Another added, “Jake Paul WILL knock out Mike Tyson,” while someone else recalled Tyson’s exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr.: “Yes, he looked this fast on the pads before he fought Jones Jr., but he was mad slow during the actual fight.”
Despite fans’ concerns and experts’ doubts, the fight is still scheduled for November 15. On that day, Tyson and Paulwill finally settle the debate, and the world will see if “The Baddest Man on the Planet” still has what it takes.
