Mike Tyson has proven to be an example not only as a sportsman but also as a person. The historic boxer has been present in various foundations and activities to promote sport to children and now he has been seen in a campaign with the DEA to send a strong message about fentanyl use.

On Monday, Mike Tyson paid a visit to the DEA laboratories, put on the official uniform and was encouraged to discover the real impacts of fentanyl, a powerful painkiller that is superior to morphine. Together with acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Alina Habba, the boxer was part of an important campaign.

Speaking to The Post, Tyson was clear in saying that “one pill can kill you” and added: “I just found out that a pinch of fentanyl can kill someone. I was never educated about fentanyl and this is new to me. I’m just here to be informed about the laws.”

Tyson was quite surprised by everything he saw on the tour and also made various confessions in order to generate a change in those who use drugs. For the former boxer, it is important to be able to change the course of his life and leave in the past actions that he is not at all proud of.

Overdoses in the United States

According to data provided by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, nearly 70% of recent overdose deaths in the United States have been from illegally manufactured fentanyl. In New York, there were 2,200 deaths from this consumption in 2024.

“Tysons are big advocates for safe use. And making sure it doesn’t come from China or a pesticide,” Habba explained.

During his tour of the DEA, Tyson was also able to learn more about the use of other substances, such as Adderall and carfentanil, which is more potent than fentanyl. The boxer was surprised and sent a message to the whole country.

We have kids who take a pill from who knows where, smoke a vaporizer or take a gummy and don’t know where it came from, and suddenly you’re on the floor because of that little piece of fentanyl

In addition, Tyson told his own story, demonstrating that he too was in complicated places full of drug offers.

“It’s mainly because I was in a lot of insane asylums, believe it or not. Then I did a lot of drugs, a lot of cocaine and a lot of alcohol, and then I started smoking and that changed my life completely. I haven’t smoked cigarettes, I haven’t drunk, I haven’t done cocaine in nine years.”
