Mike Tyson reportedly feels lucky to be alive after fighting and losing to Jake Paul on Friday, November 15 as the former undisputed heavyweight champion apparently also finds himself in a “rough shape” and feeling “embarrassed”.
The 58-year-old returned to professional fighting for the first time since 2005 when he headed to the AT&T Stadium in Texas on Friday, but it was not the comeback dream he would have hoped for as he collected an 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 loss to the ex-YouTuber.
And the truth is that after a brave first round, he did seem out of his depth. He lacked the youth to compete with the 27-year-old and The Problem Child subsequently dominated affairs with his jab as Iron Mike struggled to make an impression.
So completely outclassed, Tyson reportedly feels embarrassed by how the night played out and grateful to have made it out alive, despite celebrating the fact he made it to fight night in the first place after an ulcer flare up in early 2024 saw him lose 25lbs in weight.
“Mike is so thankful that Jake did not kill him like he said he was going to,” an insider told DailyMailOnline.com. “Mike looked at this as the end of his boxing career because it is.
“He is in rough shape and was slightly embarrassed, but he also knows that, despite his win claim, he lost. He is throwing in the towel.
“He was really hoping that he could end his career with a win but in the end, it was a win because he was paid millions. This is going right to his retirement fund.”
How much did Tyson make?
Knowing he had won the bout, Paul didn’t even bother to try to attack him in the final seconds of the night as he paid tribute to the boxing legend by bowing to him in the ring before the final bell sounded.
Whilst the moment itself was respectful, it did highlight just how vast the gap between the pair were and how far Tyson had fallen in the following 19 years since his initial retirement after a loss to Kevin McBride.
But regardless, the former WBA and WBC champion made a lot of money from the night as he reportedly earned $20m from the fight thus ensuring he will never have to work another day in his life if he doesn’t want to again.
