Iron Mike Tyson has been told by a UFC legend to accept Jake Paul’s bet to last four rounds for $5 million, or risk fans thinking he doesn’t believe in himself, ahead of their November 15 clash at the AT&T Stadium.
The Problem Child offered the ex-undisputed heavyweight champion of the world the hefty amount of money, but warned that if he’s unable to go four rounds, which is half-distance in the fight, he has to get a tattoo referencing the 27-year-old.
So far Tyson has not accepted the bet and even demanded Paul will have to increase the odds on offer, hiking it up to around $20m, in order to entice the attention of The Baddest Man on The Planet leading to Chael Sonnen to call on the 58-year-old to accept the wager.
“Oh my gosh, what do you make of that guys,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “That made my stomach uncomfortable.
“By the way, I love it and I hate it so much that it made my stomach uncomfortable. I mean, how’s that for an answer, right? How’s that for a non response by me. But it’s true. There’s a part of it that looks at it and goes, ‘Mike, you can’t turn that down.’
“We need to know Mike that you believe in Mike. We need to know that you’re out there to beat this man, to damage this man, to stop this man, like old, ferocious Mike Tyson would do. We’ve got to know that it’s not a cash grab.”
Why may Tyson’s refusal to take the bet put fans off?
Sonnen’s warning is ominous. Although Tyson is one of the most popular athletes of all-time and will return to a professional boxing ring for the first time since 2005, the idea that the bout is simply a cash-grab and not a competitive event will put fans off.
The fight has already being slammed as a farce due to the age disparity between the pair, with Tyson being almost 30 years older than Paul, whilst it will be limited to two-minute rounds for a maximum of eight rounds, and will use 14oz gloves which are heavier and softer than typical regulation.
