For the first time since the 2019 season, the Dolphins have started with a 0-3 record. Yes, it’s only September, but Miami’s season already feels like it’s on the ropes. Tua Tagovailoa had never begun a campaign with such a record-the last quarterback to do so was Ryan Fitzpatrick back in 2019.
That said, in their most recent game, the Dolphins went toe-to-toe with the Buffalo Bills-who, along with the Baltimore Ravens, are among the favorites to win the Super Bowl. However, with the game hanging in the balance, Tagovailoa threw a late interception that all but sealed Miami’s fate.
It’s not just the 0-3 start. Within the division, Miami is already 0-2, and their other loss came in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. The alarm bells are ringing in Miami, and the next two games against the Jets and Panthers could prove critical.
Mike McDaniel is furious about Tagovailoa’s interception
After taking the Dolphins to the playoffs in his first two seasons as head coach, McDaniel missed out last year, and now, with an 0-3 start, the situation is darkening quickly.
Following the loss to Buffalo-a game Miami was competing in until Tagovailoa’s costly mistake-McDaniel is reportedly furious, believing his quarterback must take responsibility for his decisions.
“Yeah I wanted to protect the ball. I think the QB has to be responsible for it, however, I wish I could just put it on him,” McDaniel said. “It’s a tough job to do when there’s someone in your face. Everybody needs to do better. And if you’ve gotta ditch the ball to the flat in moments like that, then that’s what you have to learn from.”
The situation in Miami is tense. Reports suggest some players have skipped or arrived late to meetings, while players-only gatherings have been held in an attempt to boost morale after losses. If McDaniel is indeed losing the locker room, his job could be in serious jeopardy.
