Michael Porter Jr.’s strict rule on dating bans any ex-girlfriend of another NBA player

The Brooklyn Nets‘ Michael Porter Jr. speaks honestly about his personal rules in dating, revealing a firm stance against pursuing women who have previously been involved with other NBA players.

The 27-year-old explained that his decisions are influenced by both respect and self-preservation within the league’s competitive culture as he looks to make sure his reputation remains intact.

“There was this one girl I really liked one time,” Porter Jr. explained on the One Night with Steiny show. “But she used to talk to a dude that was in the league.

“And I’m just like ‘I can’t do it,’ because if I’m cooking him, then he’s just allowed to say, ‘That’s why I hit your girl.”

The former Denver Nuggets star, who opened up last week on his podcast “Curious Mike” about women being his biggest “vice,” emphasized that while his faith helps him maintain focus, romantic interests can still be a weakness.

However, he makes deliberate choices when it comes to dating, particularly when it involves fellow NBA players’ ex-girlfriends as he explained that some players might view pursuing an NBA peer’s former partner as a “power move,” but that is not a path he chooses to follow.

He noted that he prefers to conduct thorough research on potential partners before committing to any relationship, showing just how seriously he takes any kind of romantic attachment.

Porter Jr. has previously been linked to notable figures, including the Disney actress, Madison Pettis, and the reality television personality, Madison Prewett; but recently, he was seen shopping on Rodeo Drive with rumored girlfriend, Kelsey Calemine.

Ultimately his comments indicate that he seeks a controlled and respectful approach to dating, aiming to avoid unnecessary conflicts or distractions within the NBA community, especially in the era of modern dating.

Denver Nuggets sued by former mascot

Porter Jr. is not the only former affiliate of the Denver Nuggets in the spotlight this week, as the organization itself finds itself tangled up in off-court legal matters involving their former mascot.

Drake Solomon, who portrayed Rocky the Mountain Lion, alleges that the team violated disability protection laws following a diagnosis of avascular necrosis that required multiple surgeries, including a hip replacement.

The 31-year-old claims the organization held tryouts for his replacement despite his recovery and eventual return to work, creating a hostile environment that culminated in his dismissal in August 2024.

“It was not easy to go ahead with this because I love the Nuggets,” Solomon said. “They’ve been my whole life and my family. For things to end the way they did, it was pretty heartbreaking.”

The team will hope to have the matter resolved by the start of their preseason training camp ahead of the 2025/26 NBA season, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 29.
