Michael Jordan is a legend whose sports resume is on a par with the legend that encompasses him. Rivers of ink have described what he was on and off the court.
He was the player who changed basketball, became one of the greatest legends in the history of the sport and belongs to the collective imagination of everyone who follows any competition. He has no equal and will never have an equal. For many reasons, this has helped him amass quite the fortune.
MJ’ was a supernova that had never been seen before in the world of sports. He revolutionized the sports industry, starting with a Nike company that wasn’t even a shadow of the powerhouse it is today.
He added his investments, achievements and an aura that is unmatched even today.
The Forbes List
Forbes, the century-old magazine specializing in business and finance, gives Jordan a top spot. He is the only athlete in the Forbes 400, the list that brings together the largest fortunes in the United States.
The legendary ’23’ occupies the 385th position, with a fortune established at about $3.5 billion and increasing year after year. For example, he gets $330 million from Nike alone.
It isn’t usual for an athlete to be at such heights. Within the 400 fortunes there are other personalities related to sports, but none of them is a sports professional. Stan Kroenke, who ranks 45th with 16.9 billion dollars at the helm of several teams such as the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche or Arsenal, stands out. They are businessmen, Jordan is the only sportsman.
Although it doesn’t mean that everything was given to him by his professional career. Moreover, LeBron James, for example, will earn at 40 and 41 years more than Jordan himself as a player. MJ’ goes beyond the business and reaches unsuspected limits based on what he was on the court, but expanded by a privileged mind for any activity.
The names atop Forbes 400 are on another level though. Starting with Elon Musk, in first place with $244 billion dollars from his Tesla and Space X projects. Then there is Jeff Bezos, in second place with $197 billion for Amazon. Or Mark Zuckerberg, at $181 billion thanks to Facebook.
