Micah Parsons sends blunt message to Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator

The Dallas Cowboys are heading into another offseason of change, and this time, it’s the defense that’s getting a major shake-up. After moving on from Mike Zimmer, the Cowboys are turning to Matt Eberflus to lead their defense in 2025. This marks the third coordinator in as many seasons for the team, but one thing remains constant: Micah Parsons is the star they’ll be building around.

Eberflus, returning to Dallas after a previous stint as linebackers coach, wasted no time in making his plans for Parsons crystal clear. The former Chicago Bears head coach made it known that Parsons will continue being the elite pass-rushing weapon he’s been since entering the league.

“Micah is a premium pass rusher,” Eberflus said this week. “We’re going to use him that way certainly. He’s a heck of an athlete and doing a lot of different things for us on defense. When you have a guy like that, you want to be able to utilize his skill set.”

Parsons, never shy about speaking his mind, didn’t need a long speech to get his point across. He simply quoted the Cowboys’ post about Eberflus’ comments on X with one word: “LFG.”

Cowboys on the clock: Will they build a championship defense around Parsons?

For Cowboys fans, that’s an encouraging sign. Parsons isn’t just embracing another new defensive coordinator-he’s fired up about it. That’s a crucial development, considering the Cowboys are expected to reward him with a massive contract extension, potentially making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.

Beyond his own contract situation, Parsons has been vocal this offseason about what he believes the Cowboys need to do: get him some help. He has publicly pushed for Dallas to be more aggressive in free agency, making it clear that he wants the team to invest in top-tier talent rather than playing it safe with the salary cap.

“It would be nice to be surrounded by good players, players that will help me win championships,”Parsons said earlier this offseason. “To me, having $40 million and being chipped every play and slid into three, four people, that doesn’t sound too fun to me.”

As the Cowboys front office weighs their options, the Parsons-Eberflus partnership will be one to watch. The star linebacker has made it clear he’s all-in on whatever scheme his new coach puts in place. But now, it’s up to the Cowboys to build a defense around him that can finally take them over the hump.
