Micah Parsons makes an unexpected move at Cowboys training camp amidst the drama over trade request

Micah Parsons, the All-Pro rusher who’s been a symbol of the defense with the Dallas Cowboys, is the star of one of the biggest stories of NFL training camp.

The all-world edge rusher announced on social media that he no longer wants to play for “America’s Team” and that he requested a trade from Dallas.

The reason? The former Penn State standout feels that he was disrespected during the contract negotiation process, as he thinks that he should have been paid way before exercising his fifth-year option this year, which means that he will receive $24 million.

Micah Parsons makes an unexpected move

Micah Parsons showed up at Dallas Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California, just days after requesting a trade. At first, the All-Pro pass rusher walked onto the field in a black hoodie, drawing attention from reporters and fans alike.

Midway through practice, Parsons slipped on his No. 11 jersey. Reporters speculated it was due to head coach Brian Schottenheimer‘s request for all players to look the same. The gesture left fans wondering about his intentions.

While Parsons earned praise for attending camp and helping coach his teammates from the sideline, questions remain. Is he softening his stance with the team, or just avoiding fines as he pushes for a new contract in Dallas? Something is for sure: it’s a loss for the Cowboys and Micah if he’s not making a impact on the field.

Jerry Jones’ take on the Micah Parsons controversy

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made it clear that in his eyes, the whole Micah Parsons controversy over his contract extension is part of a negotiation that goes back to March, when both met at the Big 12 football conference championship game.

In Jones’ mind, both parties came to an agreement. It was one that Jones believed others would think is more than expected. “What y’all don’t know is what I offered him,” Jones said. “And it’s a hell of a lot more than you think I did. That’s what you don’t know.”

While Parsons‘ trade request sent a ripple through the fanbase and is unprecedented, Jones isn’t detoured by it at all, and remains steadfast in his belief this is all part of the negotiation process. “My point is, I reached. Make no mistake about it, I reached,” the billionaire stated.
