The Dallas Cowboys are spending all their energy this offseason trying to reach a deal with their defensive star, Micah Parsons, who is looking to become the highest-paid non-quarterback player in the NFL.
Parsons’ agents are aiming to surpass the contracts of the spectacular Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase, and the Cleveland Browns’ Myles Garrett. Chase is averaging $40.25 million per year, while Garrett earns $40 million annually-both deals were reached this same offseason.
That’s why Parsons is aiming to exceed those figures, and currently, negotiations between him, his agents, and the Cowboys’ front office are underway. For now, Parsons has shown up to the team’s voluntary workouts, which might be a sign that talks are heading in the right direction.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have been neglecting two important players: tight end Jake Ferguson and cornerback DaRon Bland, both of whom are entering the final year of their contracts.
DaRon Bland is far from a deal
In 2023, Bland was selected to the Pro Bowl, was named First-Team All-Pro, and finished fifth in the Defensive Player of the Year voting. That season, he led the league with 9 interceptions and set an NFL record with five interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Despite Bland’s impressive performance, he still doesn’t have a new deal with the Cowboys, and negotiations are currently nonexistent.
“There are no talks. I’m just focused on the season right now,” Bland said, according to Tommy Yarrish from the team’s website. “Honestly, I just go out there to give it my all, try to do my best, and do what I can.”
The issue Bland might face is that he missed 10 games last season due to a stress fracture in his left foot. In 2024, he hasn’t recorded any interceptions, but based on his 2023 performance, he could become a highly sought-after player in the NFL.
