The NFL has officially announced that the opening game of the 2025 season will be the divisional matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, September 4 at the home of the champions.
As has been customary for more than 10 years, the winner of the last Super Bowl receives at home the first game of the season, and now the Eagles will do so against one of the most popular teams in the entire league, to which Cowboys player Micah Parsons had a singular reaction on his Instagram stories.
The Cowboys linebacker took the photo that the NFL published to announce the game with the quarterbacks of each team, Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts, with a simple and forceful phrase: “Yeah Yeah Let’s Ball”.
Eagles’ dominance over Dallas in 2024
It is worth remembering that last season two of the Cowboys’ most painful defeats were against Philadelphia, who beat their NFC East Division rivals in both regular season games.
The Eagles, eventual Super Bowl LIX champions, not only defeated but crushed Dallas in their games by scores of 34-6 and 41-7, although things are expected to change in Dallas this year.
To begin with, head coach Mike McCarthy is no longer with the team, and now Brian Schottenheimer is the new head coach of the Lone Star team.
In addition, the arrival of George Pickens to the Cowboys’ receiving corps is expected to give more depth to an offense led by Dak Prescott, who will surely arrive with a huge desire to change the story from last season, where he played just seven games due to injury.
Parsons, who is in the midst of negotiating a possible contract extension with the Cowboys, is the anchor of a defense that in 2024 finished as the No. 27 defense in the NFL, allowing 355.2 yards per game.
On the other hand, the Eagles were the best defense in the league and the eighth best offense, while Dallas was the 16th best offense of the 32 teams.
The rest of the 2025 NFL season schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 14.
