The Dallas Cowboys are essentially the laughingstock of the NFL. Despite plenty of regular season success over the past 30 years or so, it has been nothing but disappointments in the playoffs for the franchise. Fans have reveled in their agony, mainly due to the presence of owner Jerry Jones.
Jones’ overbearing nature has made him a hated figure among fans, both for Cowboys supporters and non-Cowboys fans. While Jones has claimed recently that he isn’t as controlling as he once was, fans don’t buy it, and they blame him for the majority of the Cowboys’ moves. Jones refuses to relinquish all of his control, even as he gets older. But it may be time for a change, especially if the team’s negotiations with star pass-rusher Micah Parsons go awry.
Kevin Clark calls for Jerry Jones to retire from decision-making
On Tuesday’s edition of Get Up on ESPN, pundit Kevin Clark made it clear that if Parsons doesn’t get re-signed by the Cowboys, there needs to be a fundamental change in who makes the final decision on roster moves for the franchise.
Then Jerry Jones should retire from making decisions for the Dallas Cowboys. We go through this every single year where the Cowboys do the same thing, it’s maddening. They just kick the can down the road on every single superstar. It’s the reason they don’t maximize their roster… They should have made a Super Bowl in the last decade because of the way that they were built on the lines, with the quarterback. The fact that they haven’t… is an indictment of everything they do.
Clark also harkens back to the Luka Doncic trade that just happened in the NBA. The young superstar was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in a truly shocking move. Losing Doncic and then Parsons could force Dallas fans into rioting against the Cowboys’ front office.
It would behoove Jones to make a quick decision on Parsons’ contract extension. He waited until the very end last year to do the same for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Ultimately, he got it done, but it was way too drawn out, and it kept Dallas from making more moves before then.
