Micah Parsons’ brother gives another hit about the current Cowboy’s negotiation stage

As the start date for camp comes near, Micah Parsons has made it clear: he wants his new deal done before the Dallas Cowboys head to Oxnard, California on July 22. The great linebacker, now in the last year of his first deal, is set to be the highest-paid non-QB in NFL’s history but talks are still on… and time flies.

The news from Essentially Sports says that Parsons agent has sent over a full contract plan to Cowboys’ boss Jerry Jones, and his brother, Terrence Parsons, has made it known that a final date has been set for the office. The call is clear: close the deal before camp, or face the consequences.

A $200 million deal for Parsons?

Those who know the insides of the franchise, say the Cowboys and Parsons have a rough plan for a five-year, $200 million deal, which would be $40 million a year more than what Myles Garrett gets now. However, what is not set yet is the guaranteed money, not the total amount.

NFL expert Adam Schefter has noted that the deal should be done “at some point this summer,” making Parsons the highest-paid defensive player ever.

“Deadlines make deals”

Parsons is using the same words as Jerry Jones, “deadlines make deals” to accelerate the process. While he missed some optional OTAs, he was at the must-go minicamp and has confirmed he’ll be at the training camp. Yet, he has not said if he will join the on-field actions without a new deal.

I don’t want to get off to no slow start. I want to hit the ground running and lead these guys. It’s extremely important for me to get going

High stakes to see Parsons

Since his 2021 start, Parsons, 26, has shown a generational skill. He has had double-digit sacks each of his first four years, got into three Pro Bowls, and won Defensive Rookie of the Year. His role in the Cowboys’ defense is clear and with a new coach, Matt Eberflus, his lead role matters even more.

The Cowboys’ defense was way down at 28th last season, and Parsons role is essential in their persuit to do better.

Micah’s contract circumstances

Parsons will make $24 million in 2025 under his fifth-year choice, but the Cowboys are already tight on salary cap. With Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb wanting new deals too, the office is handling a few big and hard talks at once.

Even with financial pressure, Jerry Jones has shared that he would rather spend more to “get it right,” and has spent a lot of time talking directly to Parsons.

I’d rather pay more and get it right than pay less and screw it up

Jerry Jones, to media reporters

With camp opening July 22, the Cowboys have fewer than two weeks to seal the deal. Parsons has been clear on what he expects, and while both sides hope for the best, they must soon agree on key points, especially on guarantees.

If done, the deal would not just secure a key player for Dallas but also change the pay scale for top defenders everywhere.
