Mets suffer significant blow as Jose Siri’s fracture confirmed after MRI

The New York Mets have won two games in a row and eight of their last 10 after Monday’s 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Star hitters Pete Alonso and Juan Soto each drove in Luis Angel Acuna. Alonso hit an RBI single in the third inning and Soto hit a two-run homer in the seventh.

However, center fielder Jose Siri (tibia) was out after being injured during Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Athletics. The 29-year-old is having a tough season, as he is batting just .050 with one RBI and an OPS of .308. Unfortunately for New York, the report on Siri’s injury is not good.

It is not yet confirmed how long he will be inactive

Mets outfielder Jose Siri will be placed on the injured list after an additional MRI on Monday afternoon revealed he suffered a fractured tibia.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder has a fractured left tibia, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. Fellow outfielder Tyrone Taylor, who is hitting .158 this season, has replaced him in the meantime.

The Mets (11-5) acquired Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for reliever Eric Orze on November 19 and signed him to a one-year, $2.4 million contract on January 9 to avoid arbitration.

Siri has a lifetime offensive history of .207/.265/.403 with 54 home runs and 137 RBIs in 366 games. The fifth-year veteran debuted with the Houston Astros in 2021, before being traded to the Rays in 2022.

New York leads Philadelphia by two games for first place in the National League East. It will face the Twins two more times before returning home to host the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. After that four-game series, it will host the Phillies for a three-game series before hitting the road again to play the Washington Nationals.
