If there’s one thing New York Mets owner Steve Cohen doesn’t have to worry about, it’s money, and he proved it with a million-dollar donation he made together with his wife Alex, through their Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, which comes at a crucial time.

The couple demonstrated that the New York Mets are not only limited exclusively to baseball, but also help the community of the Big Apple, popularly known as the capital of the world.

The DonorsChoose platform

The DonorsChoose platform has been a lifeline for many educators, and it was through this same platform that the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation acted with a generous $1.3 million donation, as nearly 3,000 teachers have had to turn to online fundraising platforms to secure basic classroom supplies.

According to Juan Brizuela, spokesperson for DonorsChoose, the teachers’ needs inspired the Cohens to act quickly. This type of support is vital for educators who often find themselves in the difficult position of having to fund their own teaching materials. The Cohens’ donation is not only a financial relief, but also a recognition of the hard work of teachers. In a system where resources are limited, contributions like this can make a significant difference in the quality of education students receive

With this donation, the Cohens have shown themselves to be leaders not only in the sporting arena, but also in corporate social responsibility.

It’s been almost 40 years

The New York Mets are going on 40 years since they last won a World Series in 1986, when they incredibly defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games. Since Steve Cohen bought the Mets in 2020, he has sought to bring the team back to the Fall Classic, which they have not done since 2015.
