Mets hit rock bottom as offense disappears in painful sweep against Guardians

The series against the Cleveland Guardians exposed the New York Mets’ worst offensive moment of the entire 2025 season. At home, in front of their fans and at a key stage of the schedule, the New York team was swept and showed an alarming inability to produce runs. The talent-laden lineup simply did not respond

Beyond the three losses, the most worrying statistic is that the Mets went 13 consecutive innings without a hit, a streak that stretched from the fourth inning of the second game to the ninth inning of the third. The offense was completely shut down until Juan Soto responded with a solo homerun in the final game.

Juan Soto avoids a no-hitter, but can’t save Mets on the brink of collapse

The only offensive flash came from the Dominican’s bat, who broke Gavin Williams’ great game with a solo home run in the ninth inning of the final game. The Cleveland pitcher was just two outs away from the feat, but that dream was shattered after Juan Soto’s shot to center field.

With this sweep, the Mets have lost eight of their last nine games and are now 2.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. The problem is not a lack of talent, as they have names on their roster such as Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto himself that should be a guarantee of production.

Criticism of Mets’ hitting coaches over offensive crisis

A wave of criticism has been leveled at hitting coaches Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes by fans and the local press, who are calling for change and demanding accountability for the New York team’s lack of response. In the last five games, the Mets have scored three runs or fewer in each of them and that is an unsustainable statistic for a team with playoff aspirations.

Despite the obvious offensive slump, the organization has not made any moves or statements and this lack of response has created frustration among fans who are uncertain about a measure that will reverse the course and not be too late.
