Mets boast a historic season by Juan Soto at the level of Barry Bonds

Aside from the recent performance of the Mets, the team’s star, Juan Soto, has had a wonderful season at the level of Barry Bonds, the historic left fielder. This was boasted by the New York team on social media after beating the San Diego Padres in their third game of the series.

The Queens team remains second in the National League East behind the Philadelphia Phillies with 79 wins. Philadelphia is still in charge of that zone with 91 positive units. The Mets are already preparing their strategy to continue on the winning path that would comfortably take them to the postseason in October.

Juan Soto equals Barry Bonds in home runs, steals and walks

According to AlBat, only two players have been able to achieve the combination of power, speed and patience in MLB to reach the figure of 41+ home runs, 32+ stolen bases and 118+ walks in the same campaign: Barry Bonds (1996) and Juan Soto (2025). The former did it with the San Francisco Giants, while the latter with the Mets.

Almost three decades later, Soto took over with the Mets in 2025, putting together a season that replicates and modernizes that dominance. Soto was already known for his plate discipline, but in this explosive year he added tremendous power and surprising aggressiveness on the bases. He finished with 41 home runs, 32 steals and 118 walks.

Jonah Tong recovers form in Mets’ victory over Padres

Jonah Tong covered five innings and picked up the win for the Mets, who extended their lead in the race for the National League’s last playoff spot by beating the Padres 6-1 on Thursday. Pete Alonso homered for the fourth straight game, Brandon Nimmo also went deep and Juan Soto reached his 100th RBI for the Mets.

New York won a series for the first time since taking two of three from the Detroit Tigers in early September. The Mets lead the Arizona Diamondbacks, who did not play, by two games for the third wild card and moved within four games of the Padres, the second wild card.
