Messi: “The World Cup is a great opportunity to compete against the best”

The Club World Cup is just hours away from getting underway, and Lionel Messi is one of the big attractions of this new competition between clubs. “It’s an interesting competition. To have the opportunity to participate in it is exciting. The expectations I have are different from those I had when I played in other teams, but I’m motivated and looking forward to competing against the best teams and doing well,” said the Argentine star.

The former Barcelona player has called on football fans not to miss out on this new adventure: “I think there are great teams coming from all over the world, and that mobilises a lot of people everywhere. We are talking about important teams, with very outstanding players that people love to see. It’s the first time for us, it’s a new and different tournament. So it’s a great opportunity to see the best players here in the United States, and it’s really an incredible experience to be able to live it.”

Opportunities for all teams

“It’s a great opportunity for South American teams, and also for those that are growing, to compete with European clubs: the elite teams, the ones at the top and the ones that everyone looks up to. As I said before, they have the best players in the world. So it’s an excellent opportunity to face them, and a very nice experience both for the players on the field and for the fans in the stands“
