The medical attention that Djokovic requested after losing the first set against Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open has given much to talk about. First, because of Alcaraz’s own gesture at one point in the match and then because of John McEnroe’s words during Channel Nine’s broadcast, the channel that has the rights to the tournament in Australia.
The former tennis player doubts the Serb
Patrick McEnroe, John’s brother and also a commentator on that broadcast, asked his brother if he saw Djokovic coming back to win the second set after receiving medical assistance. John McEnroe’s response was blunt: “Yes, it’s not the first time we’ve seen this. Don’t be fooled.”
Djokovic spoke at the end of the match about his physical discomfort: “I don’t want to reveal much about what I have, but the medication has helped me. If I lost the second set I was not sure if I was going to continue. It did not influence me the issue of the leg. Let’s see how I feel tomorrow.” Zverev is already waiting for him in Friday’s semifinal
Alcaraz does not add points and remains in third place in the ATP podium. Alexander Zverev will be number two at the end of the tournament no matter what happens and is 625 points behind the Spaniard.
