McDaniel explodes over Ramsey case: “I don’t give a $#@!”

Jalen Ramsey’s future with the Miami Dolphins hangs in the balance and the situation appears to be at a standstill. Despite the team and the star cornerback having been exploring trade options for almost two months, there is still no concrete movement, and what’s worse: Ramsey did not show up for the mandatory minicamp that began on Tuesday.

In the face of uncertainty, head coach Mike McDaniel is unfazed. In fact, he made his stance very clear to the media:

I don’t give a $#@! how I feel. I don’t even think about ‘how do I feel about it?’. My job is to react and control what I can control, and make sure everyone is moving in the same direction

Mike McDaniel

McDaniel avoided dramatizing the cornerback’s absence, focusing exclusively on what he can control. He is not interested in outside noise, nor in what is beyond his scope as a coach:

Business is business – and the opportunity that business gives in the offseason is to teach the team to deal with noise. Noise is something that has nothing to do with what you’re really here to do… Business and the offseason allow you to talk to your team about how to deal with that noise, which is a constant battle that, if you want to be successful, you have to win

What’s going on with Ramsey?

The 30-year-old defensive back, who won the Super Bowl with the Rams in 2022, signed a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension with Miami last year. However, it seems that his continuity in South Florida is in question.

The financial reality complicates any exit: the team that acquires him will have to absorb a significant contract, which limits the market. Meanwhile, Ramsey opted not to attend mandatory minicamp, which clearly reflects his stance.

Last chance for McDaniel?

This will be McDaniel’s fourth season in charge of the team. In his debut year he went 9-8, then improved to 11-6, but last season he disappointed with an 8-9 record that reignited doubts. In this context, his future could also be at stake.

Despite this, the coach keeps a cool head, convinced that the key is for his players to know how to block out the external noise and concentrate on their work.

Miami starts the season with many unknowns, and the first big answer will have to come from its own facilities. While Jalen Ramsey remains out, the message is clear: McDaniel is not here for distractions.
