The case of Kylian Mbappe against Paris Saint-Germain has been settled. Le Conseil des prud’hommes, the French labor rights court, has ruled that the club must pay the 61 million euros that were outstanding from the player’s final year of contract for the 2023-24 season before he left for Real Madrid. PSG understood that the striker made a verbal commitment to Nasser al Khelaifi to give up this amount in exchange for returning to the team’s discipline in the summer of 2023 and with the word before the media that no one would be harmed if he left at the end of the season. The club’s lawyers understand that the Real Madrid player has been disloyal, but the player’s lawyers have insisted throughout the proceedings that their client never committed to such a thing and his lawyer denounced the “media and psychological” pressures to which the player was subjected for not renewing his contract. The hearing between the two parties last November before the court only served to set the multi-million dollar demands of both the club and the player. PSG claimed a total of 440 million euros, including 60 million for damages and 180 million (the amount of his transfer from AS Monaco to PSG) based on the French legal concept “perte de chance” (loss of opportunity).Mbappe’s lawyers demanded 263 million euros from PSG, based in particular on the reclassification of his temporary contract (CDD) as permanent (CDI). At the heart of the debate are the unpaid wages and bonuses at the end of the contract, in the summer of 2024, of the star, now at Real Madrid, for an amount of 55 million euros.
