Maxx Crosby would like to play under this head coach

The future of Maxx Crosby with the Las Vegas Raiders appears increasingly unsettled, and recent reporting has added a new layer to the discussion by identifying a head coach the star pass rusher would welcome playing for.

After weeks of speculation and mounting frustration behind the scenes, the possibility that Crosby has already played his final snap in Las Vegas no longer feels remote.

Crosby has not taken the field since late in the season, and the circumstances surrounding his absence only fueled trade rumors.

He reportedly stormed out of the team facility after learning he would be shut down for the final two games, a decision that came amid another disappointing year for the franchise.

Soon after, social media was flooded with hypothetical trade scenarios linking him to multiple contenders.

NFL insider Jay Glazer further escalated the conversation by suggesting Crosby is likely “done” with the Raiders.

That sentiment was echoed by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, who reported that league executives increasingly believe Crosby’s exit is a real possibility rather than idle chatter.

Why Mike Vrabel stands out as a natural fit

According to Russini, Crosby has already identified a coach he would love to play for if a move materializes.

“Crosby once told me he’d love to play for Mike Vrabel, and it’s easy to see why they’d be a good match. The reality is, if Crosby does become available, the New England Patriots would be just one of many interested teams. It’s unclear how this will play out, but I’m increasingly skeptical he’ll play a down for Klint Kubiak,” Russini wrote.

The connection makes sense on multiple levels. Vrabel built his reputation as a no-nonsense defensive coach who prioritizes physicality, accountability, and relentless effort, traits that align closely with Crosby’s on-field identity.

Crosby is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s premier edge defenders, known not only for his production but for his motor and leadership.

Any trade for Crosby would come at a steep price. League sources suggest it would require a return comparable to the blockbuster package the Green Bay Packers paid to acquire Micah Parsons, underscoring just how valuable Crosby is viewed across the league.

His contract adds another layer of complexity, as teams would need the flexibility to absorb a salary approaching $30 million annually.

There are also emotional and geographic factors at play. Crosby, a Michigan native, has previously spoken highly of Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions, and some reports indicate Detroit could remain his preferred destination if he pushes for a trade.

Still, Vrabel’s reputation and defensive pedigree clearly resonate with him.

For now, the Raiders appear willing to listen. Russini reported the organization would not stand in Crosby’s way if he truly wants out, setting the stage for what could become one of the NFL’s most consequential offseason storylines.

Whether it ends with Crosby in Vrabel’s defense or elsewhere, his situation is one that could reshape multiple franchises.
