Maximum concern for Joe Milton: Is he the worst fantasy football pick in 2QB leagues for 2025?

Joe Milton III was doing very well with the New England Patriots, but he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys and the alarm bells went off. The situation of this quarterback within the Texas club is anything but promising

After the trade, many thought Milton III was going to get a second chance, but in terms of fantasy football, the outlook looks very, very bleak.

Joe Milton’s current situation

Joe Milton III will be the backup, already official and announced, to Dak Prescott with the Dallas Cowboys. The problem is his intermittency. In 2024 with New England he showed flashes, but nothing more

  • Team: Dallas Cowboys
  • Role: Dak Prescott’s backup QB
  • Age: 25 years
  • Height/Weight: 6’5″ / 246 lbs
  • University: Tennessee

Yes, it is true, in Week 18 he had a game with 241 yards, one TD pass and one rushing score. At that time, Milton seemed ready to compete… but the reality is different.

Fantasy outlook for 2025

  • Fantasy Ranking (ECR): QB #44
  • Best projection: QB #37
  • Worst case scenario: QB #63

ADP: He is not being drafted in most standard leagues. This gives a clear idea of what is coming with this player. He will be on the field little or not at all. Unless there is a catastrophe and Prescott is injured. Then Milton III takes over the position

Draft percentage in fantasy leagues:

  • Yahoo: 0%
  • ESPN: 0%
  • FanDuel: 1%
  • DraftKings: 0%

In 1QB leagues, Milton is completely expendable. And in 2QB or Superflex leagues, its value is residual. It would only make sense if Dak Prescott gets injured, which makes him a player for waivers, not for drafts.

Milton’s problem: his ceiling is too low

Although Milton is athletic and can add on the ground, Dallas’ offensive system is designed for Dak Prescott to handle key drives. In addition, his technical weaknesses – slow progression reading, inconsistency in long passes and poor intermediate accuracy – limit any breakout potential.

In other words, if you’re looking for upside in 2QB leagues, there are much more interesting options:

  1. Bo Nix (DEN): rookie with an offense designed for his development.
  2. Cam Ward (CHI): Friendly schedule and sleeper potential.
  3. Tyler Huntley (CLE): could see early action if there are adjustments on offense.

As we said, unless Dak Prescott is out for weeks with injury, Joe Milton shouldn’t be in your fantasy football plans for 2025, not even in Superflex. His value is in being an emergency insurance… and nothing more.
