Mauricio Pochettino clarifies USMNT future after exit rumors

In the midst of the Gold Cup and with the United States in the quarter-finals, rumors of a possible departure of coach Mauricio Pochettino from the bench set off alarm bells among fans, who despite a poor start, trust that the Argentine will lead the team to the next World Cup.

According to information from FOX Sports journalist Doug McIntyre, Pochettino is said to have flatly denied having had conversations with Premier League club Brentford, with whom he is currently being linked and in a league he knows quite well.

“That club never contacted me… I never spoke to them,” Pochettino told the journalist. In addition, journalist Jenny Taft also shared details after speaking directly with Pochettino. “His response was, ‘absolutely not’… And he was careful even to want to talk about it with me, because there is no truth in that report,” Taft explained.

“It would be disrespectful to myself, to the United States and to the commitment I made to lead this team in a World Cup,” Pochettino told Taft, considering that the Argentine’s project is based on the next World Cup, where the United States will be the host and all the cards are pointing to that tournament.

Premier League experience

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with several Premier League teams, and just a few days ago there was also the rumor that Tottenham were looking for his return. It is worth noting that the Argentine coach left good memories at Spurs, where he reached a Champions League final.

In addition to Tottenham, Pochettino also managed Chelsea, where things did not go well and the memories are not the best. Despite this, the coach has experience in the Premier League and it is not uncommon for rumors to occasionally surface linking him with a possible return to England.

Pochettino in the United States

The Argentine’s start with the USMNT was shaky, but he has gradually consolidated his position. His performance so far is eight wins and three defeats, and in the Gold Cup he was top of his group with nine points.

Now, the United States will face Costa Rica in the quarterfinals and will be looking to win a competition that is key to Pochettino’s future and World Cup aspirations.
