With the 2026 FIFA World Cup seen just over two months away, the ¡U.S. Men’s National Team prepares for one of the most expected events in its history. However, what happens after the competition is as important.

There have been rumors about the future of the USMNT Head CoachMauricio Pochettino, saying that it is still undecided, igniting a wave of talks that flooded social media in recent days. On Monday, he finally addressed this questions, offering a surprisingly open perspective on what happens once the final whistle blows this July.

Speaking to reporters at Mercedes-Benz Stadium ahead of Tuesday’s friendly against Portugal, the 54-year-old Argentine revealed that his journey with American soccer might not be the “short-term fix” many assumed it to be.

“Never say never”

Pochettino, who signed a contract in the summer of 2024 that expires following this year’s tournament, has been a magnet for European speculation. However, his comments on Monday suggested a deep-rooted affinity for the “massive challenge” he has undertaken in the States. He said:

“Who knows what is going to happen. We are open. We don’t have a contract for the future, but why not if we are happy and the federation is happy?

While he admitted that the role has been bigger than we thought or believed when his staff first arrived, he emphasized that they are a group that loves a challenge. For fans worried that Pochettino is merely using the USMNT as a stepping stone back to the Champions League, his insistence that he is very happy in the role provides a much-needed breath of stability.
