Lionel Messi was once again a star in MLS and this time the victim was Orlando City, a club that was leading Inter Miami two-nil, but ended up losing four-two with two goals from the Argentine. After his great performance, Messi received praise from all over the world, but the most important came from his coach, Javier Mascherano.

The Inter Miami coach spoke at the post-match press conference and praised his star player, who is preparing to play in another World Cup with the Argentina national team.

Javier Mascherano praises Messi

Mascherano valued Inter Miami’s comeback, but the most important thing came afterwards, when he was asked about Messi and the former footballer described him as simply the best of all.

“Leo, in addition to being what I’ve already said a thousand times, obviously he’s the best player who’s ever played this sport… he’s a leader and as a leader he infects others and he also often has to be infected, that is, he also has to see things on the pitch to be able to start believing,” said Mascherano.

The Inter Miami coach also added that “I think in the second half he looked much better… We started to find him in places and in positions where he feels comfortable and from there we were also able to give him more options”.

Messi goes for the free-kick record

It could be believed that Messi has already broken all possible records in football, however, there is still one quite striking.

It turns out that against Orlando City, Messi scored his 70th free-kick goal, reaching the top four footballers with the most free-kick goals, where there are several legends of world football.

Here’s the top six list:

Player / Nationality / Free-kick goals

  1. Marcelinho Carioca / Brazil / 78
  2. Roberto Dinamite / Brazil / 75
  3. Juninho Pernambucano / Brazil / 72
  4. Lionel Messi / Argentina / 70
  5. Marcos Assunção / Brazil / 69
  6. Zico / Brazil / 68
