On Saturday night, boxing icon Manny Pacquiao made a stunning return at age 46, facing WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 12-round war ended in a majority draw, allowing Barrios to retain his title. One judge scored it 115-113 for the American, while the other two scored 114-114, cementing the result as a rare majority draw.

“I believe I won”, Pacquiao’s passion shines through

Despite the nearly four years out of the ring, Pacquiao looked vibrant, showcasing his famous hand speed, footwork, and tactical ring IQ. Fans and pundits alike praised his performance, with many believing the Filipino legend did enough to edge the win. Speaking after the fight, Pacquiao declared, “I though I won the fight”, adding to the sense of injustice surrounding the decision. The controversy fueled buzz for an immediate rematch.

Barrios retains, but crowd and critics cry robbery

Mario Barrios, aged 30, and hailing from San Antonio, entered as a -275 favorite. He maintained composure throughout 12 competitive rounds, but his victory was by the narrowest of margins. The majority draw -two 114-114 cards and one 115-113- sparked jeers from the crowd and fury online. Prominent voices on social media denounced the ruling as a “robbery”, demanding accountability and transparency from the judges.

Comeback sparks rematch chatter and legacy debate

With both fighters hinting at an immediate rematch, Barrios expressing respect for “Pac-Man”, and Pacquiao eager to prove his victory, the stage seems set for another blockbuster bout. For Pacquiao, a win would mark him as the first Hall-of-Famer to claim a word title in four different decades. The draw, however, leaves that legacy moment paused indefinitely.

Pacquiao’s glittering résumé includes 12 world championships across eight divisions. With a record now at 62-9-2, the legend has signales that this comeback wasn’t just for nostalgia and that the fires till burns. Whether the rematch happens soon or not, boxing fans worldwide, are watching closely, waiting for the next chapter in this captivating saga.
