Manny Pacquiao reveals the truth behind $8 million accusations from Conor McGregor’s promoter

A few days before his return to the ring, Manny Pacquiao broke his silence on the $8 million lawsuit filed by Conor McGregor’s team, through Paradigm Sports Management.Manny Pacquiao, being a legendary boxer, admitted that this legal conflict seriously affected his mind and preparation to fight. Now, free of that legal burden, he came out to clarify the situation, and his version has generated a debate about how lawsuits can change the course of a sporting career for anyone in the world

Origin of the lawsuit: Why is Manny Pacquiao being accused and what happened in court?

  1. Paradigm Sports Management, a promoter linked to Conor McGregor, sued Pacquiao in 2023 for allegedly breaking an exclusive contract with them in 2021.
  2. The firm claimed that Pacquiao was not to negotiate or sign with others while under agreement. A California jury ruled in Paradigm’s favor and ordered Pacquiao to pay $5.1 million plus $2 million in legal fees.
  3. In August 2024, Judge Walter Schwarm overturned the ruling, finding that the contract was legally flawed: the agency was not licensed to represent boxers in California. Thus, the case was dismissed and Manny Pacquiao was relieved of the obligation to pay.

Manny Pacquiao’s emotional state after Paradigm Sports Management lawsuit

  • Training difficulties: During a recent interview, Pacquiao confessed that the trial “distracted him even in training camp” and that the pressure “was hard to bear”. He acknowledged that the lawsuit weighed on his concentration and preparation, affecting his performance in previous fights.
  • Performance consequences: That stress seems to have influenced his defeat to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021, one of the few setbacks in his legendary career. In his words: “I was not in my best mind,” attributing part of the setback to the mental strain caused by the legal troubles

Pacquiao and his plans after the lawsuit

The legal battle with McGregor’s team put Manny Pacquiao in check, causing distraction and wear and tear, ultimately influencing his performance inside and outside the ring. However, the court ruling nullified the payment obligation, leaving him free to refocus his attention on the upcoming fight and the final stretch of his career.

His next fight will be on July 19 against Mario Barrios, and he indicated that his attention is 100% on that fight. Neither the lawsuit nor possible fights with figures such as Conor Benn cross his mind for now.
