It was an open secret in England… and now it is official: Matheus Cunha (Joao Pessoa, Brazil, 1999) has signed for Manchester United for the 62.5 million pounds (almost 70 million euros) release clause. There were other teams interested but the Brazilian wanted to play for the Old Trafford team.
According to ‘Sky Sports UK’, up to five Premier League clubs, including United, wanted to sign Cunha this summer… but the former Atletico Madrid man decided quickly, and opted for the Red Devils.
The 17 goals and six assists he has scored this season with Wolverhampton have certainly caught the attention of big clubs in England. Last season he scored 12 goals in the Premier League. At 26 years of age, having just turned 26 at the end of May, he has reached the level that was expected of him but which he did not show at the Estadio Metropolitano.
Cunha has already moved almost 200 million euros in transfers since he started his career: Sion, Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, Atletico Madrid, Wolverhampton… and now, Manchester United.
