Manchester City accelerate to give Guardiola a Christmas present

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have made a move for Antoine Semenyo. According to the BBC, the Bournemouth striker is in advanced talks to join the English champions this winter. At 25, the Ghanaian is in the form of his life and could become the star signing of the winter transfer window.

Semenyo, one of the most sought-after players in the championship, has the interest of almost all the big Premier League clubs on the table. All except Arsenal, according to the British media. However, at the Etihad they already see themselves closer than anyone else to securing the deal.

Time is ticking. A clause allows Semenyo to leave in January for 72 million euros – plus five in variables – but only until the 10th. After that, that door closes. City, aware of the scenario, is moving decisively to get ahead of the competition.

The striker, who has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 13 Premier League games, scored twice just after suffering racist abuse. It was a gesture of character that did not go unnoticed.

Other names

Other giants also tested the waters. Manchester United seem to have thrown in the towel, convinced that City have the deal on track. Liverpool considered signing him after Isak’s injury – a fractured fibula, two months out – Chelsea asked about the player’s personal conditions, while Tottenham already assume they are at a disadvantage.

Semenyo, who scored a goal and an assist in the 4-4 draw with Manchester United on Monday, waved off the game alongside Iraola. It may have been one of his last images in the red and black shirt.
