The city of Málaga, an international benchmark in tourism and culture, was the main protagonist of the Hispanic Brotherhood Match, a friendly game held at the Weston Community Center at Regional Park. The event brought together local football players, former professionals, sports journalists, special guests from Málaga, and players from Hodler Miami FC.
Organized to mark the celebration of the Day of the Hispanic Brotherhood, the match went far beyond sport: it was a symbol of unity, identity, and fraternity between Spain, Florida, and the global Hispanic community.
Málaga, ambassador of the Hispanic Brotherhood
Málaga took on the role of cultural and sporting host at this unique event, reinforcing its leadership as an international destination and ambassador of Hispanic brotherhood in the
United States. The Málaga team wore official kits donated by Málaga CF, representing not only the city but also the spirit of an open and global community.
Jacobo Florido, Deputy Mayor of Málaga, stated:
“This match shows that sport is a universal language capable of bringing together cultures, communities, and generations. Málaga is not only projected as a world-class tourism destination, but also as a city that builds bridges of understanding between continents.“
A match full of emotion and symbolism
The match featured Weston FC, one of the most emblematic grassroots clubs in the United States, against the Málaga Hispanic Brotherhood Selection, a mixed team of special guests, sports journalists, former professionals, city representatives, and players from Hodler Miami FC.
The Consul General of Spain in Miami performed the honorary kick-off, underlining the official and symbolic significance of the event. The Málaga side also included Jacobo Florido, Deputy Mayor of Málaga, and Jonathan Gómez, Director General of Tourism, who represented the city both institutionally and on the pitch.
The team was further strengthened by renowned former professional players, such as Julio César Gonçalves and José Manuel Rey, among others, who brought their talent and experience to the celebration.
Far from being just a football match, the event became a cultural celebration where the flags of Spain and the United States waved side by side, reinforcing the spirit of brotherhood between Hispanic and local communities.
Beyond football: a tribute to shared brotherhood
The Hispanic Brotherhood Match was conceived as a global experience, intertwining sport with culture and pride of belonging. It paid tribute to the bonds of Hispanic brotherhood and their historic influence in Florida, highlighting the relevance of the Spanish community in building cultural bridges across the United States.
The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the City of Málaga, Málaga CF, the sports newspaper Marca, Weston FC, the Consulate General of Spain in Miami, and the UPSL (United Premier Soccer League), who supported the initiative as an exercise in cultural and sports diplomacy.
Málaga: culture, tourism, and sport at the service of the Hispanic Brotherhood
Málaga’s participation in this celebration is part of a global strategy to project the city internationally, combining tourism, sport, culture, and urban diplomacy to position Málaga as a model of modernity, tradition, and hospitality.
Jacobo Florido, Deputy Mayor of Málaga, emphasized:
“Celebrating the Hispanic Brotherhood through sport reminds us that we share common roots and that together we can build the future. Málaga will continue to serve as a bridge between Europe and America.“
