Mahomes and Micah Parsons warned as former NFL star suggests shocking return timeline

The NFL lost two of its biggest stars on the same day during Week 15 – players who draw massive audiences and whose absences will undoubtedly hurt the league. Now, both Patrick Mahomes and Micah Parsons will focus on recovery to speed up their returns, though they’ll need to be extremely cautious.

One player who knows firsthand the pain of these brutal injuries is Robert Griffin III, who experienced it himself. He’s the one advising both stars to take it slow.

RGIII’s Advice for Mahomes and Micah Parsons

He shared it on The Dan Patrick Show, suggesting they should consider sitting out the entire 2026 season after tearing their anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL).

“The number one advice I would give to Micah Parsons and Patrick Mahomes right now is to not play next year,”Griffin said. “And it’s because of when they got hurt. They both got hurt in December.”

“It would be nine months if they were ready to go Week 1,” Griffin said. “But you don’t really feel like yourself until about 15 months after the injury. And some guys will even tell you, ‘It took me 24 months to truly feel like myself again.'”

Griffin tore his ACL and LCL during his rookie season, rushed back too soon, and never returned to his previous form. That experience shapes his stance on late-season injuries, knowing they leave little room for stress-free rehabilitation.

It’s advice Patrick Mahomes should take seriously, especially since he not only tore his ACL but also damaged his LCL. Returning with limitations could pose a real risk, something RGIII has strongly emphasized.

We’ll have to see how much patience the two franchises (Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers) show. In Mahomes‘ case, the entire operation and future revolve around him. History shows elite quarterbacks can come back from these injuries – but teams must wait to see them at their best again.
