Magic Johnson and Angel Reese join forces to teach a very important life lesson to young athletes

WNBA star Angel Reese has teamed up with NBA legend Magic Johnson to launch a transformative financial literacy program for high school seniors in Baltimore, Maryland. The initiative aims to empower young students with essential money management skills, marking a significant step in both athletes’ missions to give back to their communities. Named Wealth Playbook, the program targets students at Reese’s alma mater, Saint Frances Academy, blending education with real-world impact.

Reese, a rookie standout for the Chicago Sky, and Johnson, a billionaire entrepreneur, share a passion for uplifting underserved communities. The Angel C. Reese Foundation, launched in 2023, focuses on creating opportunities for girls and underrepresented groups through education and sports.

“Our main objective is to ensure equal opportunities for all girls in sports, education, financial literacy, and other areas where girls have been historically overlooked,” the foundation’s website states. Johnson’s Magic Johnson Foundation, backed by his business ventures like EquiTrust, similarly prioritizes economic empowerment in diverse urban areas, making this partnership a natural fit.

The Wealth Playbook program, developed in collaboration with Pull Up Neighbor-a marketing firm focused on community outreach-teaches students how to budget, save, and build long-term wealth.

Reese, who has already made millions through her multi-year Reebok deal, brings a modern perspective, while Johnson, with a net worth of $1.5 billion as reported by Forbes in 2025, offers decades of financial wisdom. “The Magic Johnson Foundation, in partnership with The Angel Reese Foundation and Pull Up Neighbor, launched the Wealth Playbook,” Johnson shared on his Instagram Story, emphasizing the program’s launch in Baltimore.

Reese’s connection to Saint Frances Academy, where she starred before her LSU days, adds a personal touch to the initiative. The school has been a cornerstone of her foundation’s efforts, hosting its inaugural events. Johnson, a five-time NBA champion, has long championed education in underserved communities, making this collaboration a powerful blend of their legacies. The program’s focus on financial literacy comes at a critical time, as high school seniors prepare for adulthood, often without formal training in managing finances.

Social media buzzed with praise for the duo’s efforts, with one X user noting, “Angel Reese and Magic Johnson teaming up for financial literacy is huge for Baltimore kids!” As Reese continues to shine on the court-averaging 13.6 points and 10.1 rebounds in her 2024 rookie season-and Johnson expands his philanthropy, their joint venture promises to inspire a new generation to take control of their financial futures.
