Luka Doncic’s skill that Caitlin Clark wants to copy: “makes it look pretty easy”

We can all learn something from someone else, even sports stars. Or at least that’s what one of the most visible faces in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark, believes.

The Indiana Fever point guard joined NBC for pregame coverage of the NBA game between the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, where she admitted that Luka Doncic has a skill she could incorporate into her own game.

Clark praises Doncic

This season, the Slovenian star for the Lakers has averaged 33.7 points, 8.8 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game, leading the league in scoring and ranking second in total assists.

These stats may seem like just numbers, but they reflect Luka’s ability to not only create shots and score, but also to facilitate the ball so his teammates can do their thing.

For this reason, when Caitlin made her television debut for NBC alongside Reggie Miller, Carmelo Anthony, and Maria Taylor, she highlighted Doncic’s play: “Man, Luka, I mean Luka is amazing. The way he not only scores the ball but also the way he passes, and I think, the thing about him is that, he’s not the fastest, he’s not the most athletic, but he can get his defender to move where he wants him to go and he takes up that space,” she said.

“He does a really good job of either keeping the defender behind him or to the side. I think that’s something I can certainly learn from, like I always kind of want to run away from the defense rather than absorbing the contact and taking up the space that they give me… He makes it look pretty easy, but I can promise you it’s not that easy,” Clark added.

The truth is that Luka shoots around 35% from three-point range, making some of the most difficult shots in the league look easy. He also proved that Clark’s words were not so wrong and, during the loss to the Knicks, he was the leading scorer with 30 points, but also had 15 rebounds and 8 assists.

Meanwhile, Clark will enter her third year in the WNBA and with the Indiana Fever after a turbulent 2025. Injuries to her quadriceps, ankle, and groin limited Clark to playing only 13 games all year. She averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.6 steals.

The new WNBA season will tip off on Saturday, May 9, when Caitlin and the Fever host Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 1:00 p.m. EST in the league’s opening game.

Meanwhile, she is scheduled to return as a special contributor on March 29, when NBC covers the Knicks against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center.
