Luka Doncic slammed for faking during game as critics call him a sore loser who ran out of tactics

For the first time since donning the iconic purple and gold, Luka Doncic is facing serious heat from fans-and it’s not pretty. Wearing a Lakers jersey apparently comes with a new level of scrutiny, and Luka’s recent playoff exit has opened the floodgates for criticism.

Fans didn’t hold back as they took to social media to rip into Doni’s performance, especially in the high-stakes games that saw the Lakers fall short. And when the opposing team is as polarizing as the Timberwolves, emotions tend to explode. Some supporters were disappointed-but others were downright furious, accusing Luka of checking out mentally and leaning too hard into theatrics when the pressure hit.

The “injury” that sparked the sore loser narrative

What really sparked the outrage was a moment in the series where Luka appeared to go down with an injury. But after the tape got dissected by the armchair analysts and meme-makers of the internet, a wave of doubt rolled in. Suddenly, the narrative shifted. Critics claimed there was no real contact, alleging Luka exaggerated the moment . That’s when the “sore loser” label started flying around, with some saying he simply didn’t know how to respond once the Timberwolves began to dominate.

To his credit, Luka owned up to the loss, admitting he didn’t perform the way he should’ve. But even that honesty split the fanbase. While some appreciated the accountability, others argued he was just out of answers-and maybe even out of gas. From their perspective, it wasn’t just about not playing well; it was about running out of options entirely when the Lakers needed him most.

Fans aren’t holding back

It’s been a whirlwind season for Doni. After leading the Mavericks to the Finals just a year ago, his new chapter in L.A. ended abruptly, with a tough first-round elimination at the hands of the Timberwolves in a 103-96 loss. The quick exit raised eyebrows-especially for a player not used to being on a “winning” team that stalls out so soon.

Even though the Lakers’ playoff run was cut short, Luka still filled up the stat sheet. He averaged 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and nearly 6 assists per game-proving he can still be a dominant force offensively. But his defensive struggles were hard to ignore, especially in a series that demanded more on both ends of the floor.

Despite the controversy and criticism, it’s almost certain the Lakers will still back up the Brink’s truck for Doncic. While he’s not eligible for the supermax due to the midseason trade from Dallas, he’s still in line for a four-year, $228.6 million extension-and L.A. isn’t likely to blink at that number. After all, even sore losers can bounce back when they’ve got Luka-level talent.
