Luka Doncic plans appeal of technical foul after Lakers beat Nuggets in key win

Luka Doncic once again became the center of attention in the NBA, though this time not only for his brilliant performance on the court. After the Los Angeles Lakers’ 115-107 victory over the Denver Nuggets, the Slovenian confirmed that he plans to appeal the technical foul he received during the game, his 13th of the season. According to Doni, he believes the call was unjustified and that he did not say anything that warranted such a penalty.

Doncic was assessed the technical in the first half after arguing with the referees about a play in which he claimed he was hit on the arm twice. The player himself explained that his only comment was, “I got hit on the arm twice,” and that it should not have been enough for the officials to penalize him.

Doncic concerns

For the California-based player, there is a bigger concern: with 13 technical fouls in 34 games, the margin for error is minimal. The NBA imposes an automatic one-game suspension upon reaching 16 technical fouls, in addition to financial fines that increase with each infraction.

Despite the tension of approaching that limit, Doni made it clear that he is not worried about a potential suspension. He even mentioned that he will seek to have this latest technical rescinded by the league, which would bring him back down to 12 and give him a bit more room to manage his emotions during games. Each technical foul carries a $4,000 fine, and although the player is projected to earn more than $45 million this season, his main objective is to remain available for his team.

On the court, Luka once again showed why he is considered one of the leading MVP candidates. He finished the night with a triple-double of 38 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists, leading the Lakers to their 26th win of the season. His efficiency was also notable, as he made 12 of 21 shots from the field and 3 of 9 from beyond the three-point line. He was also a key figure in the 16-point comeback in the fourth quarter, supported by the experience of LeBron James.

Doni’s season has been extraordinary. He currently leads the league in scoring with 33.5 points per game, while also averaging 7.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists. His impact has been decisive in helping the Lakers maintain a 26-16 record, placing them fifth in the Western Conference.

After their win over Denver, the team will return to Los Angeles to prepare for their next challenge: a matchup against the Clippers at the Inuit Dome, where they will look to continue climbing the standings in a highly competitive conference following a difficult start to the season.
