Luka Doncic is having one of the best summers of his life, as the Slovenian superstar shooter recently signed a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The 26-year-old baller told the media that being a Laker is an honor and he wants to play for the Purple and Gold for many years to come.
It’s hard to believe that just like year, Doncic was trying to get his first NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks, a team that traded with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2018 draft to get him to play in the Lone Star State. Now, Luka will try to get his first Larry O’Brien Trophy in the West Coast, far away from Texas.

After signing a long-term extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic wasted no time returning to Slovenia. The star guard is now assisting the national team in their preparations for EuroBasket, looking completely at ease back with his teammates.
A recent video shows Luka smiling and bonding with his teammates, far from the tension surrounding LeBron James and the Lakers, especially after one of the greatest NBA players of all time has made it clear that he wants to win another championship before he retires.
Doncic, who helped Slovenia win EuroBasket in 2017, is lending his experience from the sidelines this time. With the Lakers‘ drama on pause, his focus is on writing another chapter of international glory, one that could remind the NBA why he’s the centerpiece of the future.
Luka envisions championships with the Lakers
Luka Doncic sees championship banners, trophies and team success while living in a cosmopolitan city and playing for a world-famous team. The Slovenian envisions his name and number in the rafters alongside every other transcendent great to wear the Lakers‘ gold jersey.
His three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension through 2028 with the Lakers should keep the 26-year-old Doncic with Los Angeles under a player option for the final season, after which he’ll be eligible for a massive five-year extension that could allow him to recoup the max money he lost by getting traded by Dallas.
Although his debut season in Los Angeles ended with a first-round playoff loss to Minnesota, the high-scoring guard says he greatly enjoyed his first months in Hollywood – enough to commit to the Lakers for the rest of his 20s, and almost certainly beyond.
