The star guard was ejected after an altercation with a fan, which was misinterpreted by the referee as a violation of the rules. After the game, crew chief Tony Brothers said that Doncic was ejected because he “directed profanity at a game official.” Brothers also said Doncic “looked directly at” the official.
While the ejection itself was a result of a misunderstanding, Doncic’s response to the situation has raised eyebrows, especially when he compared his actions to that of NBA superstar LeBron James.

Doncic, who is known for his fiery competitive spirit, admitted to engaging with the fan, explaining that he “always” responds when fans talk to him about missed shots. However, he also clarified that the fan’s comments were unrelated to the referee’s decision to eject him.
In a post-game interview, Doncic said, “I never got a fan ejected, never. But if he’s gonna talk, I’m gonna talk back like always. So that they had noting to do with the ref. So I don’t really understand.”
This explanation highlights Doncic’s unfiltered approach to interacting with fans, unlike LeBron James, who has been much more controlled in such situations. A few years ago, LeBron had fans ejected during a Lakers game for making personal comments about his family.
LeBron famously stated, “There are things I would never say to a fan, and things they shouldn’t say to me.” His stance has drawn a clear line between playful banter and unacceptable behavior.
Despite these contrasting approaches, Doncic continues to resist changing his ways. However, his teammate Jarred Vanderbilt weighed in, suggesting that Doncic’s ejection might be part of a larger issue. Vanderbilt alleged that referee JT Orr appeared to have a personal bias against Doncic, which could have influenced his decisions during the game.
While Doncic remains unapologetic about his fan interactions, the tension between him and the referees might have deeper implications for his future conduct on the court.
