Luka Doncic cleared after EuroBasket scare brightens Lakers’ outlook

Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic delivered a scare when he limped off the court clutching his right knee during Slovenia‘s EuroBasket warm-up game against Latvia.

The sight of the five-time All-NBA guard in obvious pain had both Lakers and Slovenian fans holding their breath, but official updates have since delivered welcome reassurance.

After the collision, which occurred when a teammate accidentally fell into his legs, Doncic walked to the locker room visibly favoring his right leg.

Initial concern about the severity of the injury quickly gave way to relief when medical evaluations confirmed it was only a contusion, not a serious damage. He later returned to the bench in a stable condition.

A quick return soothes fears

Marc Stein reported that Doncic is cleared to resume practice on Monday, preparing for Slovenia‘s next exhibition against Great Britain on Tuesday.

The federation’s update confirmed that the knee issue was minor, and although his participation in the match remains uncertain, EuroBasket preparation remains on track.

The reassurance comes at a pivotal time. After a summer marked by a blockbuster three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers, Doncic’s availability is vital as Los Angeles anticipates a championship push in the 2025-26 season.

His dynamic averages, made up of 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists since joining the Lakers, prove his importance on both sides of the globe.

For now, the prognosis is positive: a minor injury, a fast recovery, and a superstar back on track. Both Slovenia and the Lakers can breathe a collective sigh of relief.
