The incident occurred after Acuña hit a fly ball toward the Indianapolis third baseman. Tsung-Che Cheng hurriedly threw to first base in search of the out. However, the throw went high and forced first baseman Nick York to jump to catch it. In the action, York fell directly on the Venezuelan, who was left lying on the ground and set off alarm bells in the Syracuse dugout.
Acuña remained on the ground while trainers attended to him, and although he managed to leave the field under his own power, the team decided to remove him from the game as a precaution. The broadcast speculated that it could be a shoulder problem.
Acuña’s performance this season
