What was supposed to be a night of celebration for Virtus Bologna after the victory against Monaco ended up becoming a scandal involving the Argentine point guard of the team Luca Vildoza and his wife Milica. Both were arrested, accused of physically assaulting Red Cross health workers, as confirmed by several Italian media such as La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The incident happened hours after the Euroleague game between Virtus and AS Monaco, played at the PalaDozza. The events began in Via Calori, when an ambulance was momentarily stopped before attending an emergency. At that moment, Vildoza’s vehicle stopped behind and the player began to honk his horn and flash his lights, berating the paramedics.
A few minutes later, the two vehicles crossed paths again, this time with the ambulance driving with sirens and lights on its way to an emergency call. It was then that Vildoza allegedly performed dangerous maneuvers and sudden braking in front of the ambulance, preventing it from moving forward. The confrontation reached its most serious point when both vehicles stopped. Witnesses reported that Vildoza got out of the car and grabbed one of the workers by the neck. His wife also intervened, pulling her hair.
A police patrol immediately intervened and the couple were arrested and taken to the police station, where they spent the night. The paramedics had to be treated in hospital and one of them was discharged hours later.
At the moment, Virtus Bologna has not issued any official statement and has limited itself to referring the case to its legal department. Vildoza, 30, joined the Italian club this year from Olympiacos and had been one of the most prominent additions to the squad. His participation in the next EuroLeague game, against Asvel, is now in serious doubt due to his legal situation.
