Lou DiBella attacks Trump: “Is the US a lawless, thieving tycoon? Orange despot”

Veteran New York promoter Lou DiBella has made harsh statements against US President Donald Trump. DiBella is known as the most prolific organiser of boxing events in his hometown of New York over the past 25 years. He is a familiar face in the world of boxing.

A Harvard Law School graduate, the 65-year-old has promoted fighters such as Shakur Stevenson, Deontay Wilder, Devin Haney, ‘Maravilla’ Martinez, Keith Thurman, Paulie Malignaggi, Andre Berto, Shawn Porter, Regis Prograis, Tevin Farmer, Amanda Serrano and Alicia Napoleon, among many others. In 2000, he founded his company ‘DiBella Entertainment’ after spending 11 years as a senior executive at HBO. His promotional company, as he always defines it, is a “family business”. “I never aspire to have a giant company. I like to have a small, nimble machine and I like that we’re more like a family,” he explains. He was also an associate producer on the film ‘The Fighter’ and Stallone gave him a role in ‘Rocky Balboa’. While at HBO, he made sure that the network’s evenings were considered the best televised and he was responsible for bringing fighters such as Prince Naseem Hamed and Lennox Lewis to the United States.

Now, DiBella is taking a gamble by making harsh statements against Donald Trump and the direction his country has taken, after listening to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller make some statements about Greenland on CNN. Miller goes so far as to say during one of his responses: “The president has been clear for months that the United States should be the nation that has Greenland as part of our overall security apparatus.”

When the journalist insisted on whether a military intervention in this territory was ruled out, Miller partly took the bait and said: “The real question is what right does Denmark have to exercise control over Greenland. What is the basis of its territorial claim? What is the basis for having Greenland as a colony in Denmark? The United States is the NATO power. For the United States to secure the Arctic region and protect and defend NATO’s interests, obviously, Greenland should be part of the United States.”

“Make America great again! Peace President?… What the hell is this?! Is America a lawless robber baron? Who’s next after Venezuela and Greenland? Canada? Mexico? Colombia? Is this orange despot tearing the world apart with Putin and China? Is our standard to be the world’s leading bully, enriching America illegally and immorally, because no one is going to fight us for it?”
